Friendship

Thursday evening I posted an intense blog post. Friday morning I woke up depressed. I literally spent the whole day sitting on my couch watching NCIS: LA reruns. It was great, but it was awful. Today, I woke up with similar emotions. So I tried to actually do some things instead of watch TV all day. So I looked up some work study jobs at my new school, and emails some campus clubs. Then I watched a chick flick and colored. Not very productive, but still better than nothing. Then my best friend invited me to come over and hold her pets and sit in her hammock. So I did. We sat in her, really awesome, hammock, I petted her cat and her dog, and we just talked. She told me about her recent trip, and I told her the entire story of the movie I just watched. Never underestimate the power of friendship to pull you out of a slump. We talked and laughed, and her dog sat on top of me, and when I got home I felt a lot better. I'm so thankful that she's my best friend, and that she und...

Unbalanced

I've been thinking through a lot of things lately, one of which pertains to one of the major issues in society these days. Whether or not homosexuality is a sin, and how we as Christians should react to it. One of my main thoughts is that it is a sin. It is not how God originally created people to be, and is a result of the fall of humanity in the garden of Eden. One of my other main thoughts is that we are supposed to be the salt and light to this world, and that means we need to love God and love others as we love ourselves. How can we show others how much God loves them if we, Christ's ambassadors on this earth, do not love them? Jesus had dinner with the most hated and shamed people in His day. The tax collectors, who stole from people out of greed, and the prostitutes. These were people who were not allowed in "good society", the upstanding folk of the day didn't so much as talk to them, much less go into their homes and eat food with them. They were sinner...

Recentering

My best friend and I just catered for a writing conference, which is what inspired me to start this blog. It was exhausting and yet so much fun. I learned how much food 25 people will eat, and how much those people love grapes. We also got to sit in on a few of the sessions and workshops. One thing that really stood out to me about the whole thing is the positive attitude everyone had. I had concerns about how I would be received,  but everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming. It was really surprising and wonderful how almost every conversation lead back around to God. Everyone there was a Christian writer, so conversation was steeped in it. It really encouraged me, and it challenged me to think about why it seemed like they were all talking about God so naturally, and why I am not. It started me thinking about what I'm focusing on. What am I steeping myself in? Then I thought about the TV shows and movies I'd watched recently, and the conversations I've had and...
